Yes, in 2014, Voice Still Matters!

Heavy Reading 4G/LTE Insider, a paid research service of Heavy Reading, recently released its findings around network operators investing in Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) and HD Voice to reduce customer churn.

What this tells me – and lots of other industry watchers – is despite the fact we think it’s all about data these days, it’s still voice quality that matters most to customers.

Real Wireless research group released a report in May 2013 that goes even further: It finds that 80% of all mobile usage is already done indoors (and predicts that it will go to 90% in the next few years).

And, according to a survey done for the Small Cell Forum (included in the same report), indoor coverage/bad cell phone reception is the number one reason for customers leaving or switching mobile carriers.

Besides losing customers, carriers also care about voice quality because higher call quality can increase revenue (i.e. longer and more frequent calls) and could spur more consumers and businesses to scrap their landlines. In fact, voice service enhancements are not just about the talk time; they build revenue with services such as ringback tones, gaming and music.

That’s all good news from our perspective, because a signal booster is a pretty simple way to solve the voice quality issue. Mobile carriers certainly get it. That’s why both T-Mobile and AT&T approved our smart signal booster to address the challenges of poor indoor cellular coverage for their subscribers, along with 137 other carriers worldwide.
