While it may not be ubiquitous, VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) is already proving it’s superior to other options out there. A recent study by Signals Research Group on AT&Ts active VoLTE network indicates that it provides faster connectivity for call setups (twice as fast as on 3G) and less drain on battery life.
For all you Internet-based callers out there, the real kicker was that VoLTE performed “considerably better” than Skype in terms of higher call quality and the ability to carry on while consuming far less network real estate.
While the study was specific to one carrier, the results indicate great promise for all other network operators with LTE networks. It means a great opportunity for long-term savings, better service delivery, and more efficient use of network resources. And of course, Nextivity will be right there to ensure their subscribers have a strong cellular signal indoors with our all-new VoLTE-compatible Cel-Fi Pro smart signal booster (In the U.S., Cel-Fi Pro is authorized for use on the AT&T network, while our Cel-Fi Duo is designed to boost indoor coverage for T-Mobile subscribers.). For those on T-Mobile with an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+, and VoLTE is deployed, by default all calls are going through VoLTE.
Have you tried VoLTE yet? How does it compare to Skype?
