Crappy Signal at Home? Here is How to Fix Dropped Calls and Poor Reception

Blog

It’s not uncommon to find that as soon as you enter your home, or certain rooms within it, your cellular signals disappear. The fact is, no matter how strong a signal you get outdoors, a building can stop cellular signals from making their way indoors depending on its location and construction materials used. Walls, ceilings, floors and windows can all play a big part in causing signals to deteriorate. And for every barrier a signal has to pass through, the greater the chances of losing the signal.

A typical wall will reduce a signal by a factor of 4 to 10. The numbers vary depending on the materials being used (e.g. sheet rock, glass, wood, concrete). Basements are typically the biggest problem area because they’re underground. There are numerous barriers that cellular signals have to travel through to reach the basement level in a house, which could reduce the signal by up to a factor of 100.

The easiest way to solve the problem is a smart signal booster. It’s a device that captures the weak signal that reaches a home, improves (or “boosts”) it and retransmits it indoors. A booster can be 4 to 10 times more sensitive than a mobile phone in terms of picking up signals. And once you add that boost, you can have just as strong a signal as you would if you were standing outside. The Cel-Fi Smart Signal Booster’s advanced technology delivers up to 1,000 times better performance than the industry average (100db over the industry average of 63 to 70db).

Cel-Fi is also designed for easy setup. Simply place the window unit where you get the best signal (at least 1 bar). Then put the coverage unit in a spot where you can get the highest number on the indicator (it’s ranked 0 to 9 where 9 is best)

The further apart you place the units, the better they work and the larger the coverage area will be. Try out a few scenarios to make sure you’re getting the strongest signal you can. If you’re having problems, a Cel-Fi support specialist will be happy to help.
